Mesothelioma is a very distinct form of cancer that is caused due to presence of malignant cells in meothelium. Such a form of cancer is very rare and is mostly found in people who are exposed to asbestos particles. Consistent inhaling of asbestos in long term leads to Mesothelioma.

Mesothelium membranes are consisted of two layers, one is for protecting the internal organs of the body and the other layer acts like a sac around it. There exists a lubricating fluid between these two layers that allow moving organs like heart or lungs to maintain its ryhthmi8c motion. When these mesothelium membranes come in contact with asbestos particles they show anomaly in their behaviors and divide without any systematic order. Owing to such abnormal behavior they damage rest of the organs in contact with the mesothelium, thus leading to cancerous cells all around.

Mesothelioma is a very distinct form of cancer and is rarely diagnosed in patients. Those working in factories exposed to asbestos particles are vulnerable to Mesothelioma. However the disease can also be caused without any such exposure to asbestos, but such cases are hardly found. Now a question arises, why and how these asbestos particles results in such a major disease. Asbestos are naturally occurring group of minerals that are strong, flexible and fibrous and can be separated into further thin particles. They are mostly found in factories like cement manufacturing, brake linings, flooring products, textile mills etc. Employees working in those factories are at higher risk of exposure to such particles. These minute particles are always floating in air around such factories and can easily be inhaled while breathing. Long term exposure to such particles leads to severe health hazards and other chronic diseases.

Breathing problem and chest pain are two prominent symptoms of Mesothelioma. Drastic weight loss and abdominal pain due to accumulation of fluid is also very common among patients suffering from Mesothelioma. Slowly when cancerous cells spread out to other organs of the body it further leads to severe pain, trouble in swallowing, blood clotting abnormalities and swelling around neck or face region.
Unlike rest of the form of cancers, Mesothelioma is difficult to diagnose. A complete physical examination with MRI is needed to detect such form of cancer. Its treatment also varies depending on the location of cancer, its stage, patient’s age and other health conditions. Suggested treatment methodologies are surgery, radio therapy and chemotherapy. If organs that are affected by Mesothelioma can be removed without hampering the rest of the body parts then surgery is the best option. Radiation therapy involves the use of high energy radiations to kill the cancerous cells growing inside the affected organs of the body. Chemotherapy includes injection of drugs directly into the veins of the body.
